GQ Employment Law acquires Camfords

Acquisition cements year of growth for City-based employment boutique

Press Release - 7 December 2015

GQ Employment Law is delighted to announce the acquisition of boutique employment law firm Camfords. The acquisition, which will take effect on 4 January 2016, follows the recent hires of Partner Dan Pollard and Associates Natasha Adom and Raoul Parekh from Macfarlanes, Clyde & Co and Baker & McKenzie respectively, and rounds off a year of growth for the City-based firm.

With Camfords’ team, led by founder Richard Harvey, on board, GQ’s team of 12 lawyers (six partners and six associates) will rival and, in many cases, exceed the employment law capability of the leading full-service City firms.

GQ Managing Partner Jon Gilligan said: “This is a great development both for GQ and Camfords, and for our respective clients and people. Camfords, like GQ, is focused on helping businesses to resolve complex, high value employment law issues. It also shares GQ’s desire to challenge the traditional, full service law firms and deliver legal services in a different way to enable clients to resolve difficult HR issues more quickly, simply and cost-effectively.”

“Bringing Richard and his team into GQ will further enhance the service we can deliver to clients, both in the UK and overseas, and cement our position as the UK’s most highly regarded boutique firm in our sector.”

Camfords, which was founded by Richard Harvey in 2010, advises domestic and multi-national businesses and high-net worth individuals across a number of industry sectors including insurance, technology and luxury goods, both in the UK and overseas

Richard Harvey, who worked at leading City firm Clyde & Co before founding Camfords, joins GQ as a Partner. He commented: “GQ is a tailor-made fit given our shared entrepreneurial, client-focused ethos. After nearly six years of building up Camfords I am very excited about joining with GQ. This is a natural next step for us. GQ is a firm with a clear strategy and a very strong team, which has already achieved great things in a short space of time. I am looking forward to contributing to the next chapter in GQ’s growth.”

GQ co-founding partner Paul Quain added: “I’m delighted that we’re welcoming Richard and his team into GQ. His strong track record in the insurance sector further enhances our financial services expertise and his broader client base fits very well with our focus on the technology, pharmaceutical, professional services and luxury sectors.”

GQ Partner Darren Isaacs said: “Cross-border work is a key part of what we do at GQ and we are very excited by Camfords’ expertise in international projects. We look forward to continuing to build our international practice.”

GQ Employment Law was founded in 2010 with the purpose of combining the capability and expertise of Magic Circle law firms with the personalised, responsive and partner-led service of a boutique. Since then it has grown rapidly and is the highest-ranked UK employment law boutique for business in Chambers & Partners directory. GQ will continue to be based in its offices in the heart of the City of London.
