New government plans announced to tackle fraud

New government plans announced to tackle fraud

The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, has announced a serious of measures aimed at reducing economic crime, including fraud and money laundering.

The plans include a new national economic crime centre within the National Crime Agency (NCA) to task and coordinate the national response to economic crime, backed by greater intelligence and analytical capabilities. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) will survive the proposals and will continue to act as an independent organisation, investigating the worst offenders, and reporting into the NCA. New legislation will be aimed at strengthening the agencies’ ability to investigate, prosecute and confiscate criminal assets.
