Off work on sick leave but able to dance as a giant teacake

It has been reported that a nursery worker who took part in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in which she danced as a giant Tunnock’s teacake was off work on sick leave at the time.

Apparently, Amy McIntosh had told her employer (Woodlands Day Nursery) that she was ill with tonsillitis despite the fact that she still took part in the opening ceremony which was watched by over 9 million people, including some of Ms McIntosh’s colleagues! According to the Evening Standard, Ms McIntosh, from Erskine, Renfrewshire, said: “I have been signed off sick by a doctor and have a referral for the hospital.” However, Ms McIntosh is now reportedly at risk of the sack. Before any disciplinary sanction is imposed by her employer, a reasonable investigation into the matter should be carried out and Ms McIntosh should be given the chance to explain her version of events at a disciplinary hearing.
