Police officer caught on tv at races after pulling a sickie

A police officer was sacked after being caught on tv at the races celebrating his horse’s win after having called in sick.

The officer, PC Jonathan Adams, disputed his dismissal for gross misconduct at an Employment Tribunal arguing that he was genuinely ill, but went racing as a form of therapy for his stress, migraines and irritable bowel syndrome.

However, the Tribunal did not accept PC Adams’ explanation arguing that the symptoms that he had described were “not compatible with the activities he said he undertook in going racing” and held that the dismissal was fair.
